MINDFULNESS…IS AWARENESS THAT OCCURS BY PAYING ATTENTION IN THE PRESENT MOMENT WITHOUT JUDGEMENT TO THINGS AS THEY ARE…(JON KABAT ZINN)

Life can keep us very busy and result in our attention and awareness focused on the past and the future rather than the present.  Anxiety, worry & depression are intensified by our thoughts of past or future events.  Mindfulness practice has been found to be a very effective resource for anchoring our attention back to the present moment to give our mind and body a place to to pause and breathe.

This is a quiz that was developed to explore the concept of mindfulness which can be found in the book, “Moment by Moment..The Art and Practice of Mindfulness”(1997).   Take a few minutes and circle your answers to the following questions to explore your relationship to mindfulness.

What Is Mindfulness?

Do I suffer from “hurry sickness”?

Do I measure my happiness by future gains and events?

Do I constantly compare the present to the past?

Do I normally try to deny or push away pain?

Do I have unfinished business in my life?

Am I often bored with routines and normal day-to-day living?

Am I preoccupied with expectations of the future?

Do I robotically live my life by going through the same routine day after day without thinking of the options?

Does my life seem to be directed by old patterns or behaviors from the past?
